COMMENTARY: Unchecked decline threatens CMU’s future

A shocking lack of candor and failed presidential leadership have allowed Central Michigan University’s overall decline to continue unchecked for more than a decade.

This is a call for action.

As a Mount Pleasant native, lawyer, School of Science & Technology “Distinguished Alumnus,” major donor and son of two CMU graduates, my appointment to the CMU board of trustees by Gov. Rick Snyder was an answer to “a calling.”

I grew extremely frustrated as the university’s financial situation deteriorated, diligently calling throughout my six years for board awareness and a sense of urgency from my first month as trustee in January 2019.

In my view, the current CMU board and President Neil MacKinnon are ill-equipped to address these challenges.
